Everything Falls Into Place

As I sit sipping a mug of Berry Mint Cassis tea from Teavana I'm contemplating the events of this morning. For those who didn't know I had an interview with a non-profit called womenwinning for a summer internship. I have spent the past few days only thinking about this interview. I've never had anything resembling a real interview. All the past interviews I've had have been more like informal chats where I knew I was going to get the job when I sat down. So, obviously, I was pretty nervous. My first real, professional interview. What could be more scary? I'm always told that to be successful in life by the time you graduate you need to have done about 20 internships. OK, that's an exaggeration but you get the point. Internships are the gateway to the professional world, a peek at what you could be doing once you graduate from the wonderful bubble that is university life. So naturally I was pretty nervous. I went shopping and bought a suit with my mom and read up on the company that I was interviewing for. I felt prepared but still didn't know if I had done enough. I'd never had a big interview before, what if she asked me questions I couldn't answer? Plus I had to drive downtown all by myself. Knowing my directional skills I would probably get lost and miss the interview altogether and be stuck driving all around the cities all day. However, if you read the title of this post you'll probably have guessed by now that this didn't happen. Everything falls into place. I was able to drive to Dunn Brothers all by my lonesome, I was on time and I got the internship!!!! Now as I sit here drinking my tea I've realized something. I might not have the most outstanding resume or the most interview experience but this doesn't matter. I didn't get the internship because I wrote a pretty cover letter. I got the internship because I've worked hard in school and when I talked to the interviewer I didn't work from a script. I was just myself. Sure, I might not know exactly what I want to do as a career, so I said that. I didn't just make up some fake goal for myself. I've realized that it's not about what is on paper. If you work hard for what you want and just be yourself everything will fall into place.
